It was kind of scary, but. . .nothing too bad. The boyfriend Micah (me-ka) does all these experiments because Katie is convinced she is being haunted, again. The first time was when she was eight and she lived in this huge house with her parents. She and her sister (they shared a room) would see a shadowy figure at the bottom of Katie's bed at night. Then the house caught on fire and everything they owned was destroyed. Fifteen years later it starts happening again. Micah gets a video camera (which is what we see the movie through) and tapes every night. They hear noises, and the door is opening and closing. Micah then gets a Ouija board, and Katie gets mad at him and leaves the room. Micah follows her, and when they're both gone, the board catches on fire. Micah and Katie later find scratchings on the board. He tries to figure out what it means. Most of the stuff happens during the night, so Micah puts powder on the floor of their room to see if the things footprints will show. They do. They show them coming in the room, then down the hallway to a room with an attic. Micah and Katie find the attic partially opened. Micah gets a ladder to look in there. He finds a picture of Katie as a kid. Katie freaks out when she sees it because it was supposedly destroyed in the fire (the edges of the picture are burned). The next night Katie gets up from the bed and watches Micah sleep for three hours straight (We see this through the camera they set up on the bedside table). Then she leaves the room. Micah wakes up and she's not there. He finds her outside on the swing mumbling incoherently. He asks her to go back inside, but she won't. He goes to get her a blanket, but she comes back into the room. She has no memory of the night. They call in a physic (is that how you spell it??), but he says he cannot help them and the "ghost" is mad at him for being there. He also warns them that leaving will not do good, because it would follow Katie. Another night. The thing/ghost drags Katie out by her legs. She screams for Micah. He wakes up and struggles to pull her back. They stay up the rest of the night. The next night Katie wakes up and looks at Micah for another three hours. The thing pulls the sheets off him. Katie walks out of the room. Then she starts screaming for Micah. He wakes up and runs from the room to help her. You can faintly hear the screaming stop and Micah exclaim "Oh my god!". Then silence. Then Katie's footsteps on the stairs dragging Micah. When she gets to the door frame of the bedroom she throws Micah into the camera. She walks up to him and kneels down to check for a pulse. There is none. Katie then looks at the camera, growls, and tackles it. A black screen tells us "The body of Micah was found the next day". . ."Katie's whereabouts remain unknown". There are three alternate endings. The one you can see on the DVD version is above. The 2nd one: Katie comes into the room alone instead of carrying Micah and throwing him at the camera. She hold a knife. Katie goes up to the screen and cuts her head off. The 3rd one: Katie returns to the room (with a knife) and rocks back and forth in a catatonic state. Her friend Amber calls (Amber was cut from the version I talked about). When nobody answers, Amber comes to the house. She finds Micah's body downstairs. She calls the police, and they arrive thirty minutes later. They find Katie in the bedroom, and she drops out of her catatonic state confused. She puts down the knife. The door slams and locks her and the police officers in the room. The ending (when the credits roll) is the audio of the police's reactions to the tape.
